The Last Flight
Now, raise your arms and fly! What does War look like in the eye of the Pigeon?
Fly as a letter pigeon, carrying the first message from D-Day. Can you survive from the crossfire and fulfil your duty?
In team of Three, Dorothea Tian, Karen Chen and I created the VR flying experience as a carrier pigeon, delivering important messages during wartime. In this journey, the user witnesses the nuance of people’s lives and the trauma a war can bring to humanity through the pigeon's eye.
My role in this project is experience designer, scene designer and audio designer. I ideate the experience to be from seeing the war from the perspective of a carrier pigeon, and built the last scene of the ceremony, as well as created 2 minute long immersive audio for scene1&4
"Flap to Fly"
Working with pre-existing assets, we researched stories around wartime animals and created this flying experience in Unity3D

Main Mechanics
We designed two key interactive mechanics to enhance user embodiment: the ability to fly and coo like a pigeon. Users can lift the two controllers, flap the controllers to take off and follow a set track through various war scenes, allowing for smooth progression through key events while maintaining the sensation of flight. Although the track limits directional freedom, it ensures a focused and immersive experience. Additionally, users can trigger the pigeon’s coo to interact with comrades, enhancing the sense of presence and intuitiveness in the role of a carrier pigeon.
With VR’s advantage in the sense of presence and separation from reality, I wish my users could be visually immersed as the pigeon and spiritually embodied as a visitor to the war history, exploring both the grand vision of wartime geographic and factual stories that happened to individuals living at that time.
